Micro Incision Cataract Surgery (MICS) is a modern approach to cataract removal that uses very small incisions — generally less than 2.2 millimeters. The clouded natural lens is broken into tiny fragments using ultrasound energy (phacoemulsification) and aspirated out, then replaced with a premium intraocular lens (IOL).
A micro-incision is created at the corneal margin. Ultrasonic phacoemulsification breaks the cataract into tiny pieces which are gently aspirated. A foldable intraocular lens is inserted through the same micro-incision. No sutures are needed as the wound is self-sealing.
Patients can choose from monofocal IOLs (clear distance vision), multifocal IOLs (distance and near), toric IOLs (correcting astigmatism), or extended depth of focus lenses. Your surgeon will recommend the best option based on your lifestyle and eye measurements.
Visual recovery begins within 24 hours for most patients. Full stabilization occurs over 2–4 weeks. Eye drops are used for approximately one month. Most daily activities can be resumed within a few days of surgery.
